This website, roanokemasjid.org, is run by Masjid An-Nur (Islamic Center of Roanoke), 3718 Salem Turnpike NW, Roanoke, VA 24017. We keep the information we collect to a minimum and use it only to run the masjid's activities. We do not sell or rent it, we do not show ads, and we do not use analytics or tracking tools.
Browsing the website
You can read every page without giving us any personal information. Like all websites, our hosting provider's servers record basic technical details of each visit, such as your IP address, browser type and the pages you open, for security and to keep the site running. Our host may also set a short-lived security cookie to check that visitors are real people and not automated programs.
Forms you fill in
We only collect personal details when you choose to send them through one of these forms:
- Arrange a visit (About page): your name, email, optional phone number, who is visiting, a preferred date and time, and any notes. Used to arrange your visit.
- Request an event (Events page): the event details and your name, email and optional phone number. Used to review the event and contact you about it. Your contact details are not shown on the public event page.
- Volunteer sign-up (Volunteer page): your name, email, optional phone number and note, and the task you chose. Used to coordinate volunteers.
- Admin team requests (for the masjid's admin team): your name, email, the request and any file you attach. Used to make the requested change.
What you send is emailed to the masjid's administrators and website manager and saved in the website's private admin area, which only they can see. Admin team requests are also added as tasks in Queue, the task-management service our website manager uses. Files attached to a request are stored on the website's server. To prevent spam, the forms briefly keep a scrambled (not readable) form of your IP address for one hour to limit how many messages can be sent.
Notifications
If you turn on alerts, we use OneSignal to send notifications to your browser or phone about the topics you choose, such as new events and volunteer needs. We do not ask for your name, email or phone number. OneSignal stores a subscription identifier for your device, the topics you picked, and technical details such as your browser, language and time zone. You can turn alerts off at any time in your browser or phone settings.
Other services on our pages
Some features come from other companies, which receive your IP address and may set their own cookies when you use them. Each has its own privacy policy.
- Google Fonts supplies the lettering used on the site.
- Spreaker plays the lecture audio on lecture pages.
- Zeffy handles donations. When you give, you do so on Zeffy's website, and we never see your card details.
- Telegram, Google Maps, Google Calendar and Masjidbox (our prayer-time schedule) are reached through links that open their websites.
How long we keep information
We keep form messages only as long as they are useful for the masjid's work, and remove them when they are no longer needed. You can ask us at any time to see, correct or delete what you have sent us.
Children
This website is not directed at children, and we ask that children under 13 do not send their details through our forms. A parent or guardian can contact us to arrange a visit or to sign up.
